One week has passed since my first pollination attempt and, impatient as I am, I feel that it is time for a status update. In the right corner we have the graceful Paphiopedilum Vinicolor and in the left corner, the faithful bloomer Prosthechea cochleata. The P. Vinicolor flower have now started to wilt, which [...] The congenial morning cup of coffee gave way to much more indecent ideas as the second bud on the voluptuous Vinicolor begun to unfold. The first flower was still in fine form and with one more on the way I felt the first could be sacrificed for science… or at least some experimenting. I [...] It is easy to see where the inspiration for the name of this gorgeous Paphiopedilum Vinicolor came from… from a nice vintage of light-styled classic Pinot Noir in the dorsal sepal, to a deep ripe Syrah through the petals and lip. I bought this nice plant in bud from Orchidéhuset a few weeks ago, so [...] This lovely creature, Paphiopedilum ‘Satin Smoke’, came in bud in my order from Schwerter last week. It has just begun to open up and show me that awesome chubby micranthum chin… I just love Paphiopedilum micranthum, but haven’t gotten one yet since they have a reputation for being a little hard. I’ll start with this one [...] Gesundheit! No, seriously… Ho Chi Minh is the name of my lovely easter flower this year. Yes, of course it’s an orchid! I bought this one from Karge at an orchid show a few weeks ago, and now the bud has finally opened. Just in time for the easter weekend! It is a primary [...] My dear husband found a very nice surprise for me this week. There is a second bud coming on the big Paphiopedilum American Hybrid. It is going to be nice with two of these big showy flowers at the same time. I suppose it is only fitting that he should find it, being a big [...] This wonderfully showy Paphiopedilum American Hybrid is blooming now. From the impressive coloration I bet you can find at least one parent in the Subgenus Paphiopedilum, not unlikely from gratrixianum. The big and glossy flower is a joy to behold and a real treat only about 3 months after transferring this plant into semi-hydro leca. [...] This lovely (un-named) paph hybrid just opened up. It is the second flower on the same plant blooming right now, but it is quite obvious that I have two different kinds in the same pot… here is the “older brother”. They are equally stunning flowers, although this one looks feminine and soft, while the [...] I have been dying to try cultivation in semi-hydro for years, and a couple of months ago I finally went for it. I chose a few test subjects and so far the result has been overwhealmingly positive! Here is a status report:
