It’s time for a budthroscopy again, this time of my Cattleya intermedia var. orlata. You can see that she is dishing up two flowers this time around. Oh what fun! You can se the last budthroscopy of a Prostechea cochleata here. Ms. Cattleya is feeling shamefully good this spring… the new shoot is nearly twice as big as the ones from [...] The alien embryo is starting to peak out of its cocoon….. It is definitely springtime in the orchid room. New leaves, spikes and buds are popping out all over the place. You can almost hear them grow if you pause long enough to really listen. Ha! What a silly notion. With 11 computer fans [...] True to form, the fabulous Phalaenopsis Marbella flower spike I managed to break (!) a month ago (See: “DANG!!“) has begun to grow again! YES!! This plant is extremely willing to please, it loves to bloom, and I bummed out for quite some time after breaking the spike. Now she is bouncing back as I [...] Wow, I thougth the plant I bought about 6 weeks ago was a little too small to bloom, but Look what I found when I was watering… the beginning of a flowerstalk!! Yay! This is very exciting news. I know I have told you guys before, but it was really the Phalaenopsis bellina that [...] Another success story! The Angraecum florulentum I got a little over a year ago was doing ok on the windowsill, growing (albeit very slowly) but not flowering. Ever since I moved it into the warm vivarium it has been practically glowing. New leaves are coming on several branches and I have two flower stalks with 3 and 2 [...] You can tell that spring is coming. In the orchid room at least (outside it snowed again yesterday and today it slush all over the place). There are a lot of new buds forming, and one of the coolest looking ones is the Encyclia (Prostechea) cochleata flower pod. It looks like a small embryo [...] My dear husband found a very nice surprise for me this week. There is a second bud coming on the big Paphiopedilum American Hybrid. It is going to be nice with two of these big showy flowers at the same time. I suppose it is only fitting that he should find it, being a big [...] It is a real treat to follow the opening of the first few buds on the vanda orchid… every morning when we come down for breakfaskt before hitting the ski slopes we get to see a little bit more of the beautiful blue flowers. I bet that if you stared at it long enough [...] It is almost time… aaaaalllmooost. It is taking its sweet time but I am sure it will be worth the wait in the end. Yes, it really is that dark!! |
