Here is a complete list of all the orchids I grow and how I grow them. I update this information as I learn more things, and with orchids you learn something new every day! I keep this list manly for my own sanity, to help me keep it all straight, but perhaps my culture notes can be helpful to you as well. If you see any inconsistencies or mistakes please let me know, I would love to get it right.
Genera = A group of related species, name is capitalized and italicized (Neofinetia).
Species = genetically unique plant that occurs in the wild. The species name is written in lowercase and italicized (falcata in Neofinetia falcata).
Hybrid = Cross between two (or more) species. Hybrid names are capitalized and not italicized (Masdevallia Aquarius).
I am still working on populating this list with culture information. It is slow going, so I figured I might as well do it live. Last update: 7 August, 2010.

Paphiopedilum Vinicolor | 128 |
| My friend Peter at Orchidéhuset was telling me about these Vinicolors. What gives them the name is apparently not the color of the flowers, but rather the dark red underside of the leaves. The flowers are actually a mutation, one most commonly seen in Paphiopedilum Maudie coloratum. But Vinicolor has become more or less a collective name for all dark burgundy to almost black Paphiopedilum. Since this species can only be propagated by seed or division, one cannot rely on clones to carry the red mutation – why Vinicolors can be considered somewhat unusual. Culture notes » |
