Cattleya – a photographic study of sensual perfection

This lovely creation is blooming for me right now. You would have to look hard for a more sensual and lushious flower! The shape, the color, the sweet pearls of glucose excretion… oh it’s getting hot in here…!

I bought this plant from Marita Åkesson a year and a half ago. The shoot this year grew twice as tall as the previous year, I got two large flowers instead of just one, and they are much deeper in color. I attribute this to the new light fixture I, ehm the dear husband, installed this past December. Read about it here. Clearly the best investment I have made for the orchid room, next in line after that - the humidifier.

A photograpahic study – and admiration – of a Cattleya intermedia var. orlata.

  • Hi Karma! Really amazing your blog! This article showing the blossom of your marvellous Cattleya is beautiful! And the best, you are getting excellent results in cultivation in a “cold” country for some specimens from tropical habitat! Take a hit in my blog…written in Portuguese, there are a lot of nice orchid´s pictures. Congratulations!

  • Hi Jose, I am really happy to hear that you enjoy my blog! :) Yes, this particular Cattleya is a great example what great results you can get growing under lights. Now in the summer we have about 20 hours of daylight, but in january we only get about 6,5 hours per day… lol. I visited your blog too (and let google translate it for me). You have some beautiful orchids. Nice job!
